The Veterans Mental Health Service is able to offer assessments, treatments where appropriate and to promote engagement with third sector organisations so that the veterans benefit from a range of services available to them. We can provide advice and support for health professionals in working with veterans.
Who to refer
The Veterans Mental Health Service will see all persons who have served in the armed forces and are currently experiencing difficulties in regards to their mental health. This can be provided in conjunction with local community mental health teams (if risk is an issue) or as a stand alone service. If risk is an issue always consider the local CMHT/ Crisis Teams in the first instance. Veterans with substance misuse issues should initially referred to the appropriate team if this is their primary need.
